Typography 3D Test

In order to turn my typography images into 3D models for use in an animation I used the Photoshop grayscale 3D tool, exported the resulting model into Sketchup and rendered with Vray. There are a few things I need to work out however, as the texture map does not seem to fit the model after importing in sketch up – All the peaks seem to sharpen and no longer fit the text in place. Below is an image rendered from photoshop showing how the texture should sit on the model:

DLR/The Blitz Historic Mapping

By mapping areas of bombing during The Blitz of WWII, along the present DLR route of the Bank to Canary Wharf, against a timeline of the DLR I am carrying out historical site analysis and also setting up a possible irrational method of programme identification in a (more informed) Guy Debord, Memoir style.

Site Mash-Up

The five stops represented in these drawings are all stops on the DLR between and including Bank and Canary Wharf. Using a rational grid system I have created a new, irrational street-scape, within which multiple potential sites emerge.

Typographical Diary

The typographical images below have been created from site visits and general activities over the past couple of weeks. They are intended as an irrational typographical diary and are derived from an elaboration of the 'availability error'. The availability error occurs when associations are attached to an issue, object, question or perception based on the readiness of non-associated material/information.

Hated: GG Allin and The Murder Junkies

Hated: GG Allin and the Murder Junkies is a 1994 documentary directed by Todd Phillips about the life of GG Allin, a punk rock musician who died from a heroin overdose in 1993. Allin was infamous for excessive behavior (drug addiction, alcoholism, physical violence), and his stage shows became confrontational events involving indecent exposure (stripping and performing naked was one of Allin's most common rituals), onstage defecation and coprophagia, physical assault (both on and by Allin), and obscene language.

This film and GG Allin caught my eye as a potential user of my irrational architecture project due to his highly anti-social and provocative behaviour. In his essay The GG Allin Manifesto Allin states that if he did not do his performances he would probably be a serial killer or a mass murderer.

DLR: DRUNK TANK from Laura Edwards on Vimeo.

This short animation attempts to recreate the experience of the DLR whilst intoxicated.
The movement has been tracked directly from actual footage of a journey from Bank to Shadwell an maps the relationship between the passenger and the carriage.
